A.N.R.C. Rally 2005
This year the ANRC Rally was hosted by Northampton Boat Club. On the weekend commencing Friday 27th to Monday 30th May.
Every year at the end of May this major event takes place. Each year the rally builds on its success, and this year was no exception.
Club members together with friends started arriving some 2 weeks before the commencement of the rally. Thanks to the hospitality of NBC all arriving boats were allocated safe moorings and permitted to stay both before and after the rally.
There were over 60 visiting boats and also many day visitors including some caravaners. All were made extremely welcome by NBC who had worked extremely hard to prepare the site which included adequate car parking in the adjacent field.
The theme this year was the Battle of Trafalgar and as other years there was great participation by all visiting clubs. OCC sent 6 boats, and we participated in all the major events.
The events started with a bang on the Friday evening, with a welcome dance. But due to poor weather conditions on Saturday, the Cruiser & Narrow boat handling competition were postponed until Sunday. Various children's Auntie Polly cup events were still able to proceed also the rope throwing, junior rowing and decorated boats competition. The decorated boats however were with a difference, decorate a dingy !!
The winners being OCC (first 8 points) see more pictures
The day ended with the band, fancy dress competition, winner our membership secretary Helen, see pictures, and much to drink after a long day decorating boats.
Sunday commenced with a small Church Service, an all day treasure hunt, cruiser handling competition see pictures, narrow boat handling see pictures, side stalls and table top sale, youth endeavour, childrens Auntie Polly cup events, its a knock out see pictures, and finally a concert with entertainment provided by the clubs. There was also the judging of the illuminated boats competition see pictures a very popular event..
The final day Monday consisted of a tug of war (sorry no pictures), grand auction, raffles and draws, with the rally with prize giving. The overall winner being MNCC.
Everyone had a fantastic time thanks to the ANRC, hosts of the rally NBC and all the other hard working people who gave their time to make this event a great success.
Next year the event will be hosted by Middle Level CC (March, location not month). Look forward to seeing you there.
